Art Attack May 15 2009 15:30 Bilbao La Vieja/San Francisco Bilbao, Spain
While everyone was inside eating lunch, I attacked two barrios en Bilbao, Bilbao La Vieja and San Francisco, with a limited edition (17) of one of my screenprints at 15:30 today on May 15th, 2009. I kept the first edition and the other 16 are out in the streets.
I created the print with images of street art that I captured in the streets of Sopelana and Oviedo, Spain. I wanted to depict street art deconstructed in the print, and through this art attack I successfully relocated the street art of other cities to the barrios of Bilbao.
I taped each print up with a single piece of tape in the typical places where street art is found and in many cases on top of or next to pre-existing street art–on the sides of buildings, off side streets, in art galleries, etc. I intentionally affixed the prints in this manner so that they would call attention to the art already there and so inhabitants of the neighborhood could easily detach the pieces and take them home. Each print is signed and on the back the website of this blog appears. I also took pictures of each print placed in the streets. In this way art that started in the streets, was captured into digital film, manipulated and edited, reprinted on a screen, screen printed onto really expensive paper, put back into the streets and will hopefully find a nice home in Bilbao.
If you have found one of these prints, please leave a comment specifying the time and place of the encounter and let me know what you think of this art attack. Si has encontrado uno, por favor dejas un comentario con el lugar y la hora en la que lo has encontrado.
